mediation process step one: free consultation

At Caprio Mediation Services your first step is a free telephone consultation where you can learn more about me and how the process of mediation works.  It will offer you the chance to get whatever questions you have answered. And it will give me an opportunity to understand the particulars of your unique situation so I can give you an accurate estimate of how long the mediation process might take and how much it will cost.

To get the most out of your complimentary consultation, it is important that you understand my role as a mediator, how decisions are made in mediation, my billing procedures should you hire me, and how the courts view mediation.

 My Role as Your Mediator

As a mediator, my function is to help you and the other party better communicate your positions to each other constructively so you are empowered to craft your own solutions.  I am the neutral party in the mediation process so you do not need to convince me that you are “right”.  As a facilitative mediator, my opinion of who’s right or who’s wrong is not a consideration.  My goal is to help you reach an agreement you both think is fair – not what I think is fair.

How Decisions Are Made in Mediation

No one knows what is best for you better than you do. In mediation, all decisions are yours. There is no judge or arbitrator, including me, to impose any decision upon you.  That said, one of my strengths is helping people get unstuck by brainstorming with them creative solutions to their problems.  Many of my clients have achieved better outcomes using this technique.

My Billing Procedures

I ask clients to pay at the end of every session but they pay as they go – I do not collect a retainer.  This is more affordable and keeps you in control of the costs. In most cases clients split the hourly cost of each session equally.

It’s important that you feel comfortable working with me and understand the mediation process. Your complimentary mediation consultation offers you the opportunity to get to know me and get the answers you need with no strings attached.
